Julia Vos is making a name for herself in Alberta’s country music scene with her blend of traditional bluegrass roots and modern country. Her latest single, “Jesus Drank Whiskey,” showcases her powerful vocals and storytelling.
Music has always been a part of Vos’ life. Growing up in a large family that loved playing music together, she started performing at rodeos, fairs, and competitions, where she also developed a passion for yodelling. Country music has always been in her blood, and she believes there’s no better genre for telling stories. It didn’t take long before she knew she wanted to pursue music full-time.
Her newest single, “Jesus Drank Whiskey,” carries a message that’s especially close to her heart. Vos wanted the lyrics to speak for themselves and remind people to show one another a little more kindness. For Vos, the song is a reminder that if Jesus walked into a room today, He’d encourage us to lead with compassion instead of judgment.
The song was produced by Bart McKay, who is nominated for CCMA Producer of the Year, and Vos is excited to continue working with him as she records new music over the next year.
“Jesus Drank Whiskey” is the first single from her upcoming debut EP, Jesus, Whiskey, and Country Music. She’s excited to release a collection of songs that tell a complete story. The project reflects different chapters of her life, from growing up in a small town and enjoying nights at the honky-tonk to heartbreak and the moments that humble you.
The next single from the EP, “Cigarette Sundays,” releases on August 28. Vos describes it as a fun, feel-good song about slowing down, spending time with the one you love, and remembering to take life a little easier.
Another recent career highlight was winning her first Country Music Alberta Award for Video of the Year. She says it was a full-circle moment, made even more special by everyone who helped bring the video for “I Only Kiss Cowboys” to life, including the Calgary Stampede Cheerleaders and her husband, who played the lead role. Seeing everyone embrace her vision made the experience even more rewarding.
Looking ahead, Vos hopes to bring her music to even more fans across Eastern Canada in 2027 as she continues building momentum.
Be sure to check out “Jesus Drank Whiskey” and keep an eye out for “Cigarette Sundays” when it’s released on August 28!
