Robert Adam, Calgary’s self-proclaimed “Dream Angel Cowboy,” is a rising country music star whose unique blend of traditional and modern influences has captivated audiences. Hailing from rural Alberta, Adam’s artistry and unique style have earned them widespread acclaim, including a Top 3 spot in Sirius XM’s Top of the Country competition and over 1 million streams.
Growing up in a small Alberta town with a more conservative social structure, Adam felt that country music often reflected those perspectives. Longing for a different experience, they moved to Toronto in pursuit of big dreams, only to find themselves homesick. Inspired by Lennon and Maisy Stella’s music on the show Nashville, they began writing country songs. Initially worried about how the country music community would accept a “Dream Angel Cowboy,” Adam was met with an overwhelmingly positive reaction from audiences.
“I don’t feel like I chose country music; I feel like country music chose me. Now I realize country music is the most authentic way to tell my story,” they said. “Where you come from will always be a part of who you are.”
For Robert, the name “Dream Angel Cowboy” embodies their angelic, kind, and warm-hearted nature.
“I’ve always wanted to be a guardian angel for people because I didn’t have that growing up. I didn’t have someone who understood or wanted me to be me. That’s what I aim to do with my music—to create a safe space. I want people to listen to my music and feel like they’re calling a friend on the phone,” they said.
Adam views Kacey Musgraves as a major influence, particularly her 2013 hit “Follow Your Arrow.” “That was the first song I heard on country radio that embraced acceptance for all people. I respect her individuality and how she stays true to herself.”
As a finalist in the SiriusXM Top of the Country 2024 competition, Adam had the opportunity to record in Bryan Adams’ studio and conceptualize their own music video. Making it to the top three was an emotional and affirming experience that opened doors to invaluable connections, performance opportunities, and press coverage.
“The experience has been so valuable and SiriusXM were the most kind and hospitable hosts and incredible to work with,” they said.
Adam kicks off 2025 with the release of their heartfelt single, “Baby Blue,” which is out Friday, January 24! Drawing inspiration from music of the ’60s and ’70s, this sweet and sentimental song carries a powerful message that even in the toughest times, hardships don’t last forever. Adam wrote “Baby Blue” during the pandemic, hoping to remind listeners that brighter days are always on the horizon and to offer a sense of comfort and optimism.
Fans of Robert Adam have plenty to look forward to in 2025. Following “Baby Blue,” they’ll release four additional singles, including a special collaboration with their sister, a talented folk artist. Together, they’ve created “Sweetheart,” an Eastern Canadian-style tribute to their mom. 2025 will bring release of a full-length, 14-track album, Governed by the Seasons, set to drop in October.
“I’m incredibly proud of this album. I poured my heart into every note and lyric,” Adam shared. “It’s a piece of me, and I hope audiences discover pieces of themselves within it.”
