Jojo Mason New Defining EP “Bettin’ On Me”

JoJo Mason approaches both music and life with a simple question: “Why not?” That mindset played a major role in shaping his latest single, “Bottom Shelf”—a catchy, feel-good country soul track that sees the Vancouver-based artist embracing a fresh musical direction.

After a two-year break from releasing new music, Mason used the time to evolve his sound, blending his signature style with a rare take on country soul.

Since making his debut in the Canadian country music scene nine years ago, Mason has been on a journey to carve out his own unique voice and build meaningful connections with fans. With six Top 10 hits under his belt, a CRIA Gold certification for “Better On You,” multiple CCMA Award nominations, and over 50 million career streams, his impact continues to grow.

JoJo Mason recently released his six-track EP, Bettin’ On Me—a deeply personal project that represents a new chapter in his career. The music industry is full of highs and lows, and Mason has felt those challenges more than ever in recent years.

“For me this EP represents not just a couple of songs I picked but me taking back my craft and taking control of the direction I want to go in,” he said.

This EP is unlike anything he’s released before, making it all the more special. Choosing just six tracks wasn’t easy, as Mason had plenty of songs to consider. Trusting his gut, he selected the ones that felt most meaningful. He also enjoyed the creative process—hearing raw demos, making them his own, and witnessing their evolution into finished songs.

This time around, Mason had more creative control than ever, allowing him to explore new ideas and push his artistry further.

“It’s nice to grow, evolve, and try new things and I think that’s what we’ve done with this EP,” he said.

The title track, “Bettin’ On You,” is inspired by the unwavering support of his family. “If they’re going to be betting on me I need to bet on myself and there is more than just myself counting on me, which is where the idea for the title of the EP came from,” he said.

Right now, Mason is on the road with Steven Lee Olsen for the Country Night Across Canada Tour, making 37 stops across the country. One of the most meaningful moments for him has been sharing the story of his brother on stage, a connection that resonates deeply with audiences.

“There were some unforeseen circumstances that brought my brother and me closer, and I don’t know if I’d be standing here today without him,” Mason says. Seeing how the crowd responds night after night has been incredibly special.

Beyond the music, he’s also grateful for the experience of touring alongside Steven Lee Olsen.

“I’ve been a fan of his for a long time, and being around him and his crew is electric. I’m so grateful to be out here, stepping on stage every night to support him,” he says.
